Relax and cool off with a Caipirinha! From GialloZafferano, Italy's #1 food website. The caipirinha is a Brazilian cocktail made of lime, cane sugar, Cachaça (a sugar-cane distillate) and a lot of crushed ice. Its name comes from a diminutive of the Portuguese word "capira" (simple, humble), which is the name of the people who live in the remote country areas of Brazil, a nation where the caipirinha is served in every bar, since it's very representative of that country. Its simplicity and sweetness have made caipirinha one of the best drinks in the world. Dice the lime and put it into a quite large old fashioned glass. Add the cane sugar, then crush everything well with a pestle, in order to squeeze the lime and blend its juice with the sugar. Crush roughly some ice and fill the glass, then pour in the Cachaça and stir well with a long stem spoon; add 2 short and wide straws and your caipirinha is ready!
